Mwanza, Tanzania: The ACACIA God Mine is expected to lay off 1300
employees before the end of this year. This plan has met with strong opposition
from Workers Union.
The National Union of Mine
and Energy Workers of Tanzania (NUMET) advocate Mr. Alhaji Majogoo criticized
ACACIA’s retrenchment of 1300 employees since it goes against the Commission for
Mediation and Arbitration (CMA) which encourages more discussion before any
decision is made, adding that the retrenchment of such a big number is
catastrophic.
He said that retrenchment should go according to the Employment
and Labour relations Acts of 2004.
