October 25, 2015 Tanzania voted for General Elections which resulted to increase in
number of special seats to CHADEMA and CUF. In general there will be 113
special seats for MP’s.
The criteria used in the allocation of parliamentary Special Seats
provide for parties that have secured at least five percent of the valid votes
and only CCM, CHADEMA and CUF have qualified.
CHADEMA got 36, CCM gained 64 and CUF gained 10 special seats and
there will be more three special seats to be allocated.
“Eight constituencies did not vote, therefore, there are three
more special seats to be allocated to the parties,” said NEC Chairman, Judge
(Retired) Damian Lubuva. He said valid MPs’ votes obtained by the parties were
- CCM 8,333,953, Chadema 4,627,923 and CUF 1,257,051 - which have been used in
allocation of the Special Seats.
