The
government of Tanzania yesterday banned printing and distributing festive season
cards ahead of this year’s Christmas and New Year Celebration by using
Government money.

In
a statement issued to the media, Chief Secretary Ombeni Sefue asked anyone who
would be interested in designing and printing this year’s festive season cards
to dig into their own pockets.
Tanzania
government this year banned Independence Day celebrations of December 9 and suggested
the fund would be spent on a clean-up campaign to counter the Cholera epidemic.
President
also ordered on Tuesday the cancellation of meeting and conferences in hotels
for public servants. Instead telecommunications technologies would be deployed
to allow for two-way video and audio conferencing.
