The
insurance landscape is bound to change, with more competition coming as the
economies of the East African Community (EAC) members integrate, a prominent
insurer has said.
This,
according to the vice president, Tanzania National Re-Insurance Corporation
Limited (Tan-Re), Mr Wilson Ndesanjo, means that Tanzania’s indemnity firms
will have to keep their staff up to-date with skills that are required in the
sector.
To
achieve that, he said, insurance companies in the country will be required to
provide regular trainings to their members of staff.
“These
companies should continue to build capacity for their employees if they are to
compete in the region,” he said during a ceremony to present certificates to
participants to a three-day training workshop to several insurance workers in
Dar es Salaam.
The
training focused on indemnity for machines and buildings.
He
told journalists that soon all East African countries including Kenya, Uganda,
Rwanda, Burundi, Southern Sudan and Tanzania will be competing in a single free
insurance market.
The
training was offered by Tan-Re and Ivory Coast-based company, NCA-RE and
attended by 50 workers from 25 local insurance companies. Trainers came from
the United States of America and Ivory Coast.
Tan-Re
is a regional reinsurance company providing a broad range of reinsurance
products and services to clients in Africa.
